Simple Minds drummer Kenny Hyslop dies at 73 as tributes pour in.Linh

Simple Minds band member Kenny Hyslop has died at the age of 73. His cause of death has not been confirmed, but according to The Sun the drummer was in ill health.

Fans and musicians have paid tributes to the Scottish drummer, who was featured on the song “Promised You a Miracle”. Kenny also appeared in the music video for “Love Song” and “Sweat in Ballet.”

Ultravox singer Midge Ure wrote online: “Just about to board the British Airways flight from JFK and heard my old friend/Slik/Simple Minds drummer Kenny Hyslop has passed way. He lived a lively life!

“Huge condolences to his friends and family. He was much loved.”

As well as Simple Minds, Kenny also played the drums in other bands such as Set the Tone, The O’clock Gang and Big George and the Business. He joined Simple Minds in 1981 to replace Brian McGee.

One devastated fan wrote online: “So sad, chatted to Kenny quite a bit online in the last few years met him over 40 years ago. One hell of a drummer! Fly straight Kenny.”

A second person also commented: “Nooooooooo!!!! Not another death, I can’t handle it this week! This is really sad, I was just talking about him with @brucerisk a couple of weeks back – superb drummer.”

A third fan typed: “Met him a few times over the years, a nice guy. This is a big shame.”

Simple Minds are known for their hit soundtracks such as ‘Dont You’, ‘Alive & Kicking’ and ‘Belfast Child.’ They were formed in Glasgow and achieved worldwide success in the 1980s.

Later in his life, Kenny taught drumming at Carlton Studios in Glasgow.
