“Courageous Young Foal Receives Prosthetic Limb in Remarkable Tale of Resilience After Aleppo Attack”

October 7, 2023 by admin

A young horse which lost its front right leg in the Syrian civil war is walking again after it was fitted with a prosthetic limb.

The foal, named Sham al-Agha, lost its leg in a shell blast several months ago while President Bashar al-Assad’s regime was bombarding Aleppo.

Now, Syrian veterinarians have got the animal back on its feet with a replacement leg, which was fitted in a rebel-held region near the border with Turkey.
The limb was entirely designed and manufactured locally by a centre producing prosthetic limbs in the area.

The substitute leg is detachable and in some of the pictures taken yesterday the foal is seen resting on the ground without the prosthetic limb attached.

Aleppo has seen some of the worst violence and destruction in Syria’s civil war, which has killed more than 400,000 people in total and displaced hundreds of thousands of others.

Animal rescue charity SPCA says that ‘countless animals have lost their lives’ in the Syrian war, which has been raging since 2011.
