Sam, a young rottweiler/collie cross, is waiting for his forever home at, only minutes away from Dogs Today‘s offices. Sadly none of us can take on a new dog at the moment – but could you be Sam’s Valentine?
The one-year-old has been waiting for a new home for over six months, since he was hit by a car and later signed over to the RSPCA due to an infection to his broken leg which his owners could afford to look after.
Staff at Millbrook has now set up a dating profile for Sam, hoping he will find his very own Valentine and get his happily ever after.
Millbrook’s behaviour and welfare advisor Kate MacNeill said, “When Sam first came to us he was traumatised by what he’d been through and was terrified of us. We couldn’t get a harness or lead on him as he was so frightened and it took us a long time to gain his trust.
“Now, he’s like a different dog. He is so friendly and sociable; he loves everyone he meets, dogs and people! We really hope we can find him his paw-fect match this Valentine’s Day and that he finally finds the forever love he deserves.”
Sam is very playful and has lots of energy so he’d like an active home where he can spend lots of time with his family. He’s still recovering from his injuries so his owners will need to slowly build up his exercise and bear in mind that he may always be restricted physically so will need to come up with other ways to keep him busy.
He is a big boy and can be strong on the lead. But he loves to socialise and play with other dogs, and may be best as an only dog in his new home but could potentially live with another calm dog pending successful introductions.
As Sam can be nervous, he’d be best in an adult-only home and without other pets. He finds the vets particularly scary so will need someone to help hold his paw and get him used to the experience. He’d like a private, enclosed garden with 6ft fencing and without stair access as this can be tough on his leg.
Sam’s dating paw-rofile
Name: Sam
Age: One
Breed: Crossbreed
Likes: Playing and showing off my squeaky toys!
A bit about Sam: I’m very sweet and love everyone I meet. I’m still a pup at heart and can be very playful. I love to play with my toys and carry them around in my mouth!
Sam’s paw-fect match: I’m still recovering from surgery so I need someone who can take it slow and gradually build up my exercise. I’ve been scared by my past experiences so I’d like a patient person who is experienced in owning big dogs and can help me find my way.
