Detroit Tigers pitcher Jackson Jobe, 22, will miss the rest of 2025 after requiring Tommy John surgery on his right elbow, the team announced. Dr. Keith Meister will perform the procedure in Arlington, Texas, with a 12-18 month recovery timeline, potentially delaying Jobe’s return until 2027.
“It’s really disappointing news,” GM Jeff Greenberg said on June 11, 2025. “I really feel for Jackson. He’s a very determined individual. I have no question, he’s going to work through this process and be a really important contributor for this team for a very long time.”
Jobe, who posted a 4.22 ERA in 10 starts this season, reported elbow soreness after his May 28 outing, where his fastball velocity dropped 1.5 mph. “I hate it for him,” said teammate Casey Mize, a 2022 Tommy John recipient. “It’s a long process, but I know he’ll attack. I’m feeling for him, but I know, in the end, everything is going to be all right for him.”

Despite a Grade 1 flexor strain diagnosis, further evaluations confirmed the need for surgery. “We’re confident,” Greenberg added. “He’s in great hands. We know what (the) process will look like.”
Jobe’s 96.1 mph fastball ranks in the 81st percentile, with a peak of 101.8 mph in 2024. “I hate it for our team as well,” Mize said. “Jackson is a special talent. It’s a long road, but I know he’s going to work really hard and come out of it better.”
