British Prime Minister Keir Starmer met with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas on September 8 in London, as the British Government moved closer to recognizing the state of Palestine.
The two leaders discussed the urgent need to find a solution to end the terrible suffering and famine in Gaza, as well as the release of hostages held by Hamas.
Mr Abbas welcomed “the UK’s commitment to recognise the state of Palestine ahead of the UN General Assembly later this month, unless Israel changes its position”.
Several countries, including the UK and France, have announced that they will recognise the state of Palestine at the UN in late September. The UK government has said it will take this step if Israel does not agree to a ceasefire in Gaza.
