Sean “Diddy” Combs has issued a cease-and-desist to his former protégé, Shyne (real name Moses Michael Levi Barrow), regarding Shyne’s new Hulu documentary.
On Friday, November 22, 2024, a “source” informed Page Six that the rapper was not attempting to “block the release of the film” but wanted to “ensure” its accuracy.
The concerns arise from recent interviews Shyne, a former artist with Bad Boy Entertainment, gave ahead of the release of his documentary, The Honorable Shyne. He alleged he was made the scapegoat in the 1999 Club New York shooting, which resulted in his 10-year prison sentence while Combs avoided consequences.
In the documentary, Barrow referenced Diddy’s ongoing criminal case, suggesting that his actions were “coming to light.”
He added: “Because when I said it, everyone was partying and having a great time with Diddy while I was left to rot in prison.”
In a separate interview with Channel 5 Belize in September 2024, Shyne accused Combs of “destroying (his) life.” Barrow, who was 18 at the time of the shooting, claimed he was “defending” the rapper, who later “turned around and called witnesses to testify against (him).”
“He pretty much sent me to prison,” Barrow said.
Despite this, Shyne stated that he has forgiven Combs and moved forward, noting he takes no pleasure in what the rapper is now experiencing.
According to Page Six, Diddy’s former bodyguard, Gene Deal, also appeared in The Honorable Shyne. In the documentary, Deal described an unusual incident involving Combs before heading to court for the shooting verdict. He recounted that Combs stopped in Central Park to meet a man holding a caged bird.
“When Puff got close to the guy, he just dropped down to his knees. Next thing I see, is this smoke just going back and forth around Puff. I guess it was sage or something like that.”
Deal claimed the man, holding a Bible, prayed and touched Combs before instructing him to release the bird from the cage. He alleged that when Combs threw the bird into the air, it fell straight to the ground like a brick.
